Kenyan beaches are amongst the best in the world according to a recent survey. The Diani beach in Kwale, and Watamu beach in Malindi are two top Kenyan beaches amongst Africa’s and world best beaches.
In the latest Travellers’ Choice Awards (Best of 2015), Diani Beach was ranked as the 22nd best beach in the world.
Top Kenyan Beaches
Diani Beach was also voted third among the top 25 beaches in Africa. The beach which is about 10 km long is located in south of Mombasa, in the nearby Kwale County. A reviewer posted “The sand is white and beautiful, and it doesn’t get hot so it burns your feet. The water is crystal, palm trees for shade. they also have a lot of activities such as glass boats, camel riding and deep sea fishing.”
Watamu Beach in Malindi, which features white sand beaches and offshore coral formations, took the 14th position on the continent. The Watamu Marine Park is considered one of the best snorkeling and diving areas in the African coast.
Top beaches and hotels
Nakupenda Beach and Paje Beach in Tanzania were ranked 17th and 21th in Africa consecutively. Anse Lazio from Seychelles was ranked the best beach in Africa and sixth overall, Camp’s Bay Beach South Africa was second in Africa and 11th overall. Others that made top five in Africa were Clifton Beaches in South Africa and Anse Source d’Argent in Seychelles.
Baia do Sancho from Brazil was voted as the best beach among the top 25 beaches in the world. Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands was ranked second while the Rabbit Beach in Lampedusa Island of Sicily was ranked third best worldwide.
Medina Palms which is perfectly situated in Watamu, Kilifi County was the only Kenyan hotel which was voted as among the top 25 hotels in Africa and getting to the 19th position. With one reviewer posting on TripAdvisor site “We had the pleasure of staying at Amani the Family villa with the private pool right on the beach. And what a delight it was! The place was impeccable and rooms were simply decorated all en suite and beautiful.”
Mauritius had the highest number of hotels ranked in top 25 in Africa with 10 hotels. Constance Le Prince Maurice in Poste De Flacq, Mauritius was ranked as the best hotel in Africa and 17th worldwide. South Africa had six hotels, Morocco and Tanzania had three each, Seychelles 2 and Kenya 1. Baraza
Resort and Spa in Tanzania was ranked 10th in Africa and 1st in East Africa.
Worldwide, Gili Lankanfushi in the Lankanfushi Island, Maldives was ranked as the best hotel. Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort and Shinta Mani Club Siem Reap, Cambodia came in second and third position consecutively.
TripAdvisor gives global travelers a platform to post reviews on travel related content and provides ranking of beaches and hotels from across the world based on choices made by the travelers.
Tourism facilities in Kenya
In addition to the Kenya beaches, there are other tourist attractions such as wildlife and nature. Kenya conference tourism is also on an upward trend and has gained popularity in the recent years and most regional and global conferences having been taking place in Kenya.
