There also is a lot of responsibility as well. With wealth comes power, freedom, and responsibility. Bad credit loan provider Buddy loans looks at some of the worlds richest people.

As you will see, the world’s richest people are people who have worked for their wealth. Many did inherit substantial sums of money or were born into wealthy families, but they worked as well.

Where do the richest come from?

They come from around the world.

The United States accounts for 26 of the world’s richest people, but then again the US is a huge and vast country with a massive population.

Canada seems to only have one (1) of the world’s richest people as does Mexico.

Saudi Arabia has the next highest number of world’s richest at 11. Must be all that oil money.

Let’s see who are the richest people in the world:

Bill Gates

All you have to do is say his name you immediately think of computers, in particular the company Microsoft.

Mr. Gates, an American, is said to be worth over $79 billion! And he gained that fortune mostly from Microsoft. A company he co-founded in 1975.

Since then, he and his team of developers have changed how we look at and use computers. The introduction of Windows in 1983 changed everything, and they are soon to release the most recent version, Windows 10.

Carlos Slim Helu

Here is our one richest person from Mexico, who is worth around $77.1 billion. From 2010 to 2013, Carlos was the world’s richest person in the world. He and Bill Gates seem to alternate that honour.

This self-made billionaire made his fortune by investing in a diversified range of companies. When he purchased Mexico’s telephone company, and subsequently built up their cellular service, his fortunes grew.

Warren Buffett

Another American billionaire worth an estimated $72.7 billion.

Besides being the most successful investor of the 20th century, Warren is also looked to and sought out for advice on many economical issues, not just investing.

Amancio Ortega

Moving across the Atlantic to Spain we have Amancio Ortega whose worth is $65.4 billion.

And how did Mr Ortega amass such a fortune you may ask, he did so in the world of retail and fashion as he owns Zara.

The company is unique in that they have a “no advertising” policy, which would seem counter-productive. They also can have a new range of clothing developed and in stores in one (1) week! The industry average is six (6) months.

Larry Ellison

Back to the colonies and Mr. Ellison an American is worth $54.3 billion. He made this fortune as the founder and CEO of Oracle between 1977 and 2014.

You may not have heard of Oracle, but if you are in the business of computers, you would have heard of them. Oracle is the 2nd largest software maker second to Microsoft.

Charles Koch

Charlie is an American and worth $42.9 billion.

His company, Koch Industries has their hands in many different companies and industries, such as oil, the refining and distribution of petroleum. The companies he owns employs 50,000 people in the United States and an additional 20,000 in other countries.

David Koch

David is the younger brother of Charles Koch, and he is also the Executive Vice President of Koch Industries. He is worth $42.9 billion, the same as his older brother. If they combined their fortunes they would be worth over $85 billion.

Christy Walton

Christy is the widow of the late John Walton, who was one of the son’s of the founder of Wal-Mart. Say that three times quickly.

She is worth $41.7 billion, this money coming from the giant retailer that is Wal-Mart. Asda here in the UK is owned and a subsidiary of Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart has 2.1 million employees around the world, with 1.4 million in the US. They employ 1% of the US population. That’s huge.

Christy is also the most generous woman in the United States as she gives millions to charities each year.
