The new Moi University Scheme Complex Tower (MUPS) is currently the tallest building in Eldoret town.
The fast growing Eldoret town is not only a producer of champions but also an academic hub as well as a bread basket. The 26-storey Moi University Scheme Complex Tower has changed the skyline of the town and overshadowed all the other existing tall buildings in Eldoret.
The magnificent landmark, MUPS tower, is located in the heart of the town along Eldoret-Nairobi highway. Currently, Moi University Scheme Complex Tower ranks as the largest and tallest building in the Western region of Kenya.
Some unique features of MUPS are presences of; a swimming pool, health club, restaurant, multi floor car park, penthouse, and an expansive office space.
On its completion, MUPS is anticipated to have five dedicated floors that would be used for parking. Three of these are the basement parking levels, and the other two are on the mezzanine floor which and fitted with ultra-modern car lift. Whereas the outside car park have a capacity of about 80 cars, the internal car park have a capacity of more than 600 cars. This would salvage the town’s parking space which is becoming inadequate as the population of people owning vehicles continues to increase.
Office space ranges from about 54 squares meters to the entire floor. The Moi University Scheme Complex Tower has 17 dedicated and designated office floors from the 7th floor to the 23rd floor. With the onset of devolution and the influx of numerous companies setting up their regional offices in the Northern Rift of the country, the limited office space in Eldoret town has been a challenge.
Major companies aiming to invest set base in MUPS includes National Media Group, which is planning to set a replica of its Nairobi’s National Center.
A restaurant and a swimming pool are expected to be located on the 24th floor of the tower. Other than a swimming pool and a restaurant, the floor will also have an ultra-modern health club. On the 25th floor, there would be a penthouse. This will make the tower a self-contained modern building.
The tower’s 26th floor will house mechanical workshop while the 27th floor will hold communication masts. Movement from one floor to the other will be facilitated by modern high-speed lifts. For those who do not prefer using the lift, the tower will have stairs for them to use. The building will also have dedicated ramps that would cater for movement of heavy cargo and to help people with disabilities.
The Moi University Scheme Complex Tower is said to be the first building in the North Rift with perforated aluminum skin wall that provides solar shading. The tower will have a full powered lighting system, around the clock, CCTV surveillance within and outside the building, as well as sufficient internet connection.
The Kerio Valley Development Authority Plaza (KVDA- Plaza)
Before MUPS, the KVDA Plaza used to be the tallest building in Eldoret town. Constructed at a total cost of almost Ksh. 400million, KVDA- Plaza is 14 storied and currently the second tallest building in Eldoret. KVDA- Plaza has an international conference center fitted with modern gadgets. The conference center has a huge capacity that can hold more than 400 people at the same time. The top floor of the building is stadium shaped.
To generate money, the KVDA management has let various spaces to several businesses as offices, a restaurant and other investments. Construction of the plaza’s southern wing is said to have stalled close to twenty years ago. KVDA management, however, decided to expand it. This led to the construction of the building’s second wing which was completed in June of 2016. The completion of this new project has seen an increase in the amount of income from what was previously being raised. Since the completion of this second wing, it is believed that it has already brought in more than Ksh. 160 million.
